Dermaplaning is a popular skincare treatment available at both RejuvaMed clinics with our aestheticians Charlotte, Gemma, Deneka and Zoe.

It is a gentle skin exfoliation treatment which not only removes the top layer of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, but also the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), leaving the skin incredibly smooth and soft to the touch!

The procedure itself involves the use of a sterile surgical blade which is curved in to a sharp point. The skin is gently cleansed and dried before the chin, cheeks, jawline and forehead are held taught and the blade is expertly scraped along the surface in a series of repeated and precise movements. With each pass of the blade vellus hair and dead skin is removed from the skin.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

The average skin cycle is 28 days, which means that at the end of each cycle you will have a layer of dead skin sitting upon the surface. The fine hairs we have on the face also trap debris and skin oils, and once these build up they can also contribute to the skin appearing dull and lacklustre.

Removing the dead skin layer and vellus hair from the face not only makes the skin appear brighter and healthier, but it evens skin texture and also means that any products which are applied following treatment can penetrate the skin more effectively and are better absorbed. It also provides a completely smooth base for the application of make-up too!

Won’t the hair grow back darker?

This is a question we’re often asked. Vellus hair is a completely different type of hair to that which grows elsewhere on the body, such as on the legs for example. Following a dermaplaning treatment the hair will grow back with exactly the same texture and colour as it had before.

Is dermaplaning suitable for everyone?

The only type of skin unsuitable for a dermaplaning treatment is that with active pustular acne. And unlike laser hair removal treatments, dermaplaning does not carry the risk of hyperpigmentation for those with darker skin types and higher amounts of melanin within the skin.

How often do I need to have a dermaplaning treatment?

We recommend having a dermaplaning treatment every 4-6 weeks to keep the skin bright, smooth and healthily exfoliated.

Is dermaplaning painful?

Dermaplaning is not painful at all. The treatment is carried out in one of our relaxing and comfortable treatment rooms, and most clients say they find the treatment quite satisfying – especially when they see the exfoliated skin and hair we’ve removed afterwards!

Can dermaplaning be combined with other treatments?

In short, yes! We offer a dermaplaning and skin brightening peel combination treatment, which involves a gentle skin peel for cell stimulation within the deeper layers of the skin, or the treatment can simply be enjoyed on it’s own as a single treatment. It can also be used prior to a dermal needling treatment, and with an Opera LED Mask afterwards for additional collagen stimulation.
