Anti-wrinkle injection treatments using Botox® remain one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the UK.

Despite the unwavering popularity of anti-wrinkle injections Dr Grant McKeating, owner of RejuvaMed Health & Wellness, is keen to make sure that anyone considering treatment has thoroughly researched the procedure and makes fully informed decision.

Here are Dr McKeating’s top 5 things to consider before booking your next treatment:

1. Choose a fully qualified and experienced practitioner

If you are considering having an anti-wrinkle injection, make sure your treatment is carried out by a properly qualified practitioner.

Research your practitioner thoroughly. Check their qualifications and training, research their reputation online and ask to see examples of their work and customer testimonials.

2. Understand the risks and side-effects

RejuvaMed Health & Wellness uses Botox® in clinic for anti-wrinkle injections. One of the reasons is because it has been fully tested and proven to be safe to use in cosmetic treatments.

However, as with all types of prescription medicine, there are some small risks and potential side effects. Most patients don’t experience any problems at all with the treatment, but it is important that you understand the risks and make an informed decision about the procedure.

3. Make sure you understand what products are going to be injected into your body

The term ‘Botox®’ is widely used by the public to describe anti-wrinkle injections in general. Many people do not realise that Botox® is actually the brand name of a type of anti-wrinkle injection, but there are many others on the market which contain different ingredients, work in slightly different ways and can have different side-effects.

Before you go-head with your anti-wrinkle injection procedure, make sure you understand which product is going to be used.

4. Be realistic about the results

Some patients come to clinic expecting to look like their favourite celebrity but this isn’t the case.

Anti-wrinkle injections can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles that develop due to movement. They work by reducing the movement of certain muscles in your face, which in turn relaxes the lines and wrinkles. You will still look like you, just with smoother and more radiant skin!

It’s also worth bearing in mind that most anti-wrinkle treatments take up to 2 weeks to take full effect, so you won’t see an instant difference in your appearance.

Wrinkles that occur because of aging, sun damage or gravity won’t be improved with an anti-wrinkle injection. They will need to be treated using a different type of procedure, such as dermal fillers.

Make sure you have discussed what you hope to achieve by having your treatment and ask your practitioner if an anti-wrinkle injection is the best option.

5. Less is more!

At RejuvaMed Health & Wellness we have been trained to administer Botox® in small doses in the correct sites to make sure the effect is as natural as possible. No-one wants to have a ‘frozen’ face!

The aim is for you to look more radiant, fresher faced and feel more confident. Less is most definitely more!
